The Freedom Machine was founded in April 1975 by Paul Chaleyer and James Byrne with the intention of selling only the highest quality bikes.
At that time the only brands that the business sold were Raleigh, Gitane and Peugeot.
The business was sold in 1978 to Trevor Spry who had it until 1987 when the current owner Adrian Curnow took over.
The Freedom Machine also runs a Road and Mountain Bike team with the most notable results being the following:
. Wes Bielski 96/97 World Veteran X-Country Champion,
. Mark Hastie Australian Veteran Road Champion 95/96 and
. Ben Meadley 4 x Victorian Track Titles from 1992 - 1995.
. Our team also held until recently the World unofficial 24 Hour Audax record of 770km.
